A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet Book Cover

Summary

Catalia "Cat" Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker. This smart-mouthed soothsayer has no interest in her powers and would much rather fly under the radar, far from the clutches of her homicidal mother. But when an ambitious warlord captures her, she may not have a choice…

Griffin is intent on bringing peace to his newly conquered realm in the magic-deprived south. When he discovers Cat is the Kingmaker, he abducts her. But Cat will do everything in her power to avoid her dangerous destiny and battle her captor at every turn. Although up for the battle, Griffin would prefer for Cat to help his people willingly, and he's ready to do whatever it takes to coax her…even if that means falling in love with her.

What happens when you mix together a hero and heroine, who are equally matched in their stubbornness and passion, and place them into a forced-kidnapping situation, while throwing in some very lovable and mischievous secondary characters, warring kingdoms, dangerous creatures, magical battles, and mythological shenanigans? You get pure reading delight - an unputdownable new series to fall in love with.

With Amanda Bouchet's debut, A PROMISE OF FIRE, romance enthusiasts are treated to a couple that fills the pages with plenty of romantic tension and heated verbal sparring as well as a kick-arse hero and heroine to cheer for, all the while centering A PROMISE OF FIRE in an exciting fantasy world that is sure to please.

Catalia "Cat" Fisa is a powerful clairvoyant known as the Kingmaker, and by the way, she is a complete spitfire. I'm a fan of the abducting tropes in my romantic reads when done right - they just add so much delicious tension. Well, Cat is a take no prisoners kind of gal. Yes, she may have an enchanted rope binding her to a very sexy, alpha warlord, but she is no helpless prisoner. The sass and spark she delves out to her captor, Griffin, will make you actually laugh-out-loud and feel sorry for him. Humor is sexy! Cat holds some magic up her sleeve and, oh what fun it is to watch her try and finagle herself out the situation.

Make no mistake, Griffin is the ultimate male warlord, the kind we all want as our book-boyfriend because he straddles that fine line of fierceness and protectiveness that romance fans love. He needs Cat's ability as a Kingmaker to help restore balance to the recently attained kingdom of Sinta, where his sister resides as Alpha Sinta, its new ruler, and Griffin as Beta Sinta, warlord and second in command. With a kingdom hanging balance, Griffin needs Cat's help. Unfortunately, Cat has reasons for not wanting anyone to know about her Kingmaker abilities, dire reason, but this miscommunication leads to tons of animosity brewing between them. Fun thing is, when either is threatened, there's no question about protecting one another when danger arises.

Bouchet skillfully weaves in a fantasy world that feels reminiscent of Greek mythology, yet something new as well. Mentions of gods, especially Hades and Poseidon, teases readers with some interesting clues that I hope will be revealed in upcoming books that I'm excited about. Waring kingdoms, magic, creatures, and an evil villainess dapple the pages of A PROMISE OF FIRE, ensuring plenty of action and plotting for our hero and heroine to fight through.

For those of you who love strong, secondary characters Griffin's warrior companions will melt your heart. Carver, Flynn, and Kato round out the story perfectly adding humor and sweetness, as well as surprising friendship to our feisty heroine. Later we meet Griffin's family whose delightful sisters offer strong female friendship. I can easily picture some fantastic possibilities as spinoff series with these loveable characters.

A PROMISE OF FIRE is highly recommended to readers of Fantasy-Romance as Bouchet skillfully weaves in all the favorite elements readers love to see in their books. A fierce couple with plenty of sizzle and chemistry, lovable secondary characters, an exciting fantasy world filled with dangerous creatures and strong magic, all wrapped up in a fast-paced, exciting plot. Yes, you need this one!
