SUMMARY:

Ingrid and Gabby Waverly moved to France expecting a quiet reprieve from London gossip, but the truth they face in their new home has a sharper--and deadlier--sting.

Paris is plagued by an underworld of demons and gargoyles who all seem to want something from the Waverly girls. Saving Ingrid's twin, Grayson, from the fallen angel Axia nearly killed them. And they're still being hunted--only this time, demons aren't their only predators.

Ingrid's blood is special: it bestows the power to command gargoyles. It's an ability no other human has, and in the wrong hands, it could be used to send her cursed guardian, Luc, and his fellow Dispossessed to extinction. There are those who will do anything to get Ingrid's blood--and they see no value in human life.

The Alliance has vowed to protect the Waverlys, and a new gargoyle has been assigned to guard their abbey home alongside Luc. But no one can watch over Ingrid, Gabby, and Grayson all the time--which means the three must learn to fight for themselves.

Because darkness follows the Waverlys. And sometimes darkness comes in the form you trust the most.

Review

May contain spoilers if you have not read book one: The Beautiful and the Cursed.

The Lovely and the Lost by Page Morgan is the second book in The Dispossessed series. Filled with unique Gargoyle lore and rich atmosphere, Page Morgan continues to surprise me with her world of The Dispossessed. Once again, I was able to escape to this richly atmospheric world of gargoyles, demons and angels. A world of forbidden romance and danger.

The story picks up immediately where book one, The Beautiful and the Cursed, left off and the Waverly family is together once again in Paris, having survived the attack from the fallen angel Axia. But, the battle is far from over. Besides the continued threat from the fallen angel Axia, a new danger looms over Ingrid. As a carrier of a special angel and demon blood, Ingrid now has the power to command the the Dispossessed, a power that once only belongs to the angels.

Set in 1899 Paris, book one introduced the readers to the secret world of the Dispossessed and the grotesque creatures, the strange sculptures on the churches and abbeys, that are protectors to the humans who inhabit them. Book one gave us the beginnings of this scary and exciting world and The Lovely and the Lost  continues in the same tradition, but now also focuses on the characters own inner battles. The story continues to use alternated points of view between the main characters, and I loved getting to know them better as well as see the changes they go through in the story.

Ingrid struggles to learn to control her power of lightning, and adjust to her mixed angel and demon blood. I loved the exploration of Ingrid's new supernatural abilities and it was exciting to see her face down old and new enemies. The forbidden romance between Ingrid and Luc continues to pull at my heart strings. There's some swoon worthy kissing that had me sighing. If only they could be ...

Gabby is a feisty, sword wielding heroine who has focused all her energies on becoming a competent fighter, she is determined to join the Alliance, despite them refusing her. With no supernatural powers, she is forced to rely on her wits and courage alone. She struggles with the knowledge that she has been physically scarred, and I loved her determination to look beyond it and become the kick-butt heroine she's meant to be.

I'm not sure I could answer, if asked to choose which sister is my favorite, Ingrid or Gabby? They both continue to grow in each story, having each suffered personal hardships. Both are becoming such great heroines. I really liked them both as this series continues.

The enigmatic Grayson makes a much stronger presence in this story, and I'm so excited over his character. If you've read book one, then you remember at the end of the story Grayson was rescued from the fallen angel Axia and we discovered that he has hell-hound blood in him which causes him to shape shift. We get to know more about Grayson's mysterious past in London and why he was sent to Paris earlier by his father. He's such a fascinating character that I hope he gets his own story. There seems to be a possible romantic interest and some serious supernatural events that have my dying to know more about him.

With the stories focus shifting to more character development in the beginning, the pace was slower at times, but the latter part of the book more than made up for the somewhat slow beginning. There was so much action, betrayal, and shifting alliances going on that kept me fascinated and eager to find out what happens next. New creatures and powers are introduced, as well as surprise declarations of love, and heartbreak! The ending left me saying no...

The Lovely and the Lost by Page Morgan once again swept me away to the enchanted world of The Dispossessed. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read and a great addition to the storyline. I'm excited for this series to continue and I'm eagerly waiting on book three. I need to know what happens with Luc and Ingrid's forbidden romance, and Grayson needs his own story as well!

My Rating: 4 Stars. I really liked it!
